Welcome Madelen!

We woke up at 4am on August 5th, to be at the hospital by 5:30am for our scheduled cesarean at 7:30 in the morning.

Before we left, we took one last pregnancy picture!

After being admitted into the hospital, we were brought to a pre-delivery room where Julia was given an IV and we met the various doctors -- the anesthesiologists and also Julia's OB, who would be performing the operation. At 7:20am, Julia was taken to the operating room and was given a spinal epidural, which left her numb from her chest down. Jay joined soon after!

The entire operation took about 45 minutes, from the first incision to the last stitch!

Within the first 15 minutes...

19.5 inches long and weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces!

After the delivery, it was off to the recovery room, where Julia was able to hold Maddy for the first time!

What an amazing experience, to instantaneously fall in love so deeply.  We're both overjoyed by the new addition to the family and are excited for the challenges and joys that little Maddy will bring us!
